Originally formed as a side project towards the last couple of years of MotörheadbyPhil Campbell,theformerMotörhead guitarist of 32 years, the banddecided to take it up a level and revealed thenew name ofPHIL CAMPBELL AND THE BASTARD SONSatWacken Open Air 2016.A self-titled EPwas released a few months later.Led by one of the genre’s most respectedguitarists and completedby his sons Todd, Tyla and Dane the band emerged onto the 2017touring circuit powered by a hugeamount of good will,a smattering ofMotörheadcoversand a handful of new songs that crackledwith passion and swagger. Landing themselves aprestigious support slot onGUNS N’ ROSES2017summer stadium run, theBASTARD SONShit the ground running.By the time the band released their debut album,The Age Of Absurdity, in January 2018,this honestrock ‘n’ roll enterprise had organically blossomed into a pretty big deal. Thealbum garneredwidespread great reviews, picking up a trophy for ‘Best Debut Album’atMetal Hammer Germany’s2018 awards.Two years later, recorded and engineered duringlockdown by guitarist Todd Campbell,the second album was just the tonic people needed.It’s calledWe’re The Bastardsand itwas bigger,better and even more raucously upliftingthan its predecessor with top 40 national chart entries in 4countries!Shortly after the band announced to the world the recruitment of new powerhouse leadsingerJoelPetersin January 2022, the band entered their studio at Stompbox Studios, SouthWales, UK andbegan writing and recording the album at the beginning of 2022.After putting the songwriting groundwork in throughout the Spring, the bastards thenentered theirbusiest festival season to date including performances at major festivals suchasWackenOpen Air,Hellfest, GraspopMetal Meetingand many more throughoutthesummerof2023.After the busyfestival season the band then had time to reconvene to put thefinishing touches ontheir new album,Kings Of The Asylum.Phil Campbellcommented “It’s been a great experience writing this album alongside Joel and the restof my lads.
